READY TO GO

Good time of year to get ready for summer. Personally I have renewed my fishing licenses, gone through my gear for camping and booked  my site early. Yard sales offer a great opportunitity to pick up items for your campsite or vacation cottage at bargain prices.

Try to get to a few shows. You don't need to buy a new boat or hundreds of dollars worth of tulip bulbs to get in the spirit of things. Just attend a few events to generate some enthusiam. This is the time of year $20 will take you away for a few hours and give you a much needed lift. Gardeners will love the Flower Shows. Boston runs this week from March 13-17th. I attended the RI show and it gave me some great ideas and made spring feel a little closer.  I love the lectures and demonstrations that provide professional help. This was one of the floral displays that I found delightful.

Time for my new Mah Jongg card and membership renewal to yes, my favorite place, Blithewold in Bristol RI. Playing with like-minded gals on the veranda  while watching the sailboats drift by surrounded by flowering gardens is just the best way for me to spend a free afternoon.

Stock up early on games and puzzles at one of the Savers in your area. Inexpensive and a great thing to bring to a vacation place for family entertainment.

REFRESH, RENEW.....RETREAT

After this long and dreary winter, it's a good time of year to plan a getaway to regenerate  physically, mentally and emotionally .Step back and restore the balance in your life, perhaps  reflect on your  place in the universe or just pamper your body. What a perfect way to reconnect with one's self without the outside distractions daily living throws at us in every form . There are so many choices, from a religious retreat to a spa center that can provide a much needed restful haven.

I'm fortunate to have a place I can go with like-minded people to be peaceful after the winter storms  have wound down. Two weeks at a spa may be ideal, but economically unsound nowadays. A day or even a weekend is doable, just enought time for a breather without a hard hit on the bank account. Look for specials advertised by yoga centers, or check for church sponsored  retreats. What a wonderful way to celebrate surving another harsh New England winter. If it's not possible in the next few months, do some research into or summer or fall . It will provide a wonderful and much needed  break.
